Even the longest journeys start with a small pace...

If the light is the goal of the journey, this journey is valuable for me. The thousand journeys which we take during all our lives are generally horizontal journeys. They are limited by our bodies, time and space. In most of them are objective, search, and even satisfaction but they are not the ones which completely fill our hearths with light. But which journey takes to the light? My answer is: the perpendicular journey. One does not need to get into a spacecraft for this journey. It does not even resemble taking an astral journey. This journey means heading to the source of the shining light stretching from our hearths, to the source of endless beauty. It also means advancing to the real-self of ours. There are two kinds of perpendicular journey.

1- Occasional journeys, for instance, prayers or meditations performed at some intervals or deep travels we take during the process of genuine art creation (inspirations of high source) or beautiful contemplations we dream related with the world and the universe. These kinds of journeys are taken at times and may not become the aim of life.

2-     The kind of journey we choose to extend along a lifetime and to turn out to be the purpose of our lives. Everything we do reflect this journey. Whatever we attempt to do for the general goodness or any good intention arises in the hearth, happen as a result of this journey.

3-      Some or all elements of these kinds of journeys may be placed in a synthesis in human life. Some people, without having realized this, may take great pleasure from this journey and would like to practice it repeatedly.

Perpendicular journey symbolically has two directions; downward and upward. Just in the way we have a chance to reach the most sublime light of universe if we take a route upward, the downward direction of the same route takes us to the chaos of the universe. There is a thousand year’s old approved principle in spirituality: ‘Expansion of Conscience’. One of the most important aspects of this principle is not the ascending of conscience with its opening and enlightenment. Conscience expands both upwards and downwards in the same scale. That is, conscience does not only start to realize and recognize the ‘high and enlightened’ layers of the universe but also the ‘scoundrel and dark’ layers of it.

The secret of the matter is that: The important thing is to determine the direction upward just at the start. With the power, light, courage and energy we get from above, we are capable of turning the chaos below into order.  On the contrary, if we dived into ‘below’ in the beginning, we would neither have the will nor the power to move upward. Perpendicular way is always difficult. Admitting to expand in both directions and going ahead sometimes require great devotion. The power from ‘above’ asks equally for responsibility and determination from us. Handling fire is far more easy matter to accomplish; you can cook food or may cause a fire. Enlightening the dark is like cooking food, cleaning the environment, and accomplishing them without burning around and converting into a chaos is what one may call not easy.
