1) Interstate 60

Director: Bob Gale
Cast: James Mardsen, Gary Oldman, Christopher Lloyd, Amy Smart

Subject: Neal is 23, in the age that everyone tries to learn what he wants to do about his life. In his birthday party, he wishes to have an answer about his life. When he gets out to see the car his father bought him as a present, a falls down on his head. He falls to the ground, unconsciously. When he wakes up in the hospital, he starts to a journey which will lead him to the discovery of the answers about his life. 

Why?: It’s a movie that has more theme and energy than all other movies in the ist. It’s the best film about spiritualism, and you’ll often find yourself saying “Great!”
 


2) Run Lola Run

Director: Tom Tykwer  

Cast: Franka Potente, Moritz Bleibtrue

Subject: Lola and Manni are young lovers who live in Berlin. Manni, who does some work for a gang, loses a big amount of money when travelling by subway. He has only 20 minutes to find money and give it to the head of the gang, or he’ll be killed. He quickly calls Lola, and tells about the situation. Then, Lola starts to run to somehow find the required money.

Why?: It’s a grat movie that tells how even the very little choices can change our lives, and makes us feel the power of leaving ourselves to the natural flaw of the Cosmos.
 


3) Star Wars Trilogy

Director: George Lucas
Cast: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Alec Guiness

Subject: “Long long time ago, in a far away galaxy...” It is the legendary story of Anakin Skywalker. Luke Skywalker, Obi Van Kenobi, Prenses Leila, Han Solo, R2D2, and others... All those heroes and more have entered to our life by Star Wars series.

Why?: “Let power be with you” what does that mean to you? Or replications such as “darkness for him, more dense when compared to light...” And how about the reveal of that information in 1977 that spiritual teachings were not around. Also, it’s the best film which talks about darkness and light. 
 


4) Matrix Trilogy

Director: Larry and Andy Wachowski.
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie Ann-Moss

Subject: Thomas Anderson is a computer-programmer and a good hacker. His nickname is Neo. Neo wants to learn what MATRIX, something he has heard the name of, is. After a while, he meets with Morpheus and Trinity, and realises that the world he lives in is an illusion, created by intelligent machines. Morpheus believes that Neo is a and he trains Neo, keeping on his belief. Now, for Neo, Morpheus and Trinity; the only way is fighting to save the world.

Why?: There are tones of messages, references and themes in that movie. Moreover, the movie’s ability to make the audience to think beyond what is seen to count it as a wonderful movie. 
 


5) Thin Red Line

Director: Terence Mallick
Cast: Sean Penn, Jim Caviezel, Nick Nolte

Subject: A group of twelve American soldiers try to pccupy a hill named “2 10” which is owned by Malick moves his camera on those soldiers with calm movements, revealing their thoughts. 

Why?: Do you want to know about fear? Do you want to watch how fear leads people eachother’s murder even in a heavenly place? Watch this movie that emphasizes the meaninglessness of war. It’s a quite stunning movie with its both poetic and brutal strain.
 


6) Legend of Bagger Vence

Director: Robert Redford
Cast: Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Will Smith

Subject: Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon), a hero from the First World War, is invited to an opening ceremony of a new golf course.  When he realizes that he is not as good as he was at golf, he turns to Bagger Vance (Will Smith), who suddenly enters to his life.

Why?: “Harmony with the Cosmos” and “letting it flow". Those are the main themes of the movie which are wonderfully reflected... You’ll especially love Will Smith’s Spiritual Guide character
 


7) Pay It Forward

Director: Mimi Leder
Cast: Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Haley Joel Osment

Subject: Just imagine. You make a favor to three people and want them to pay it forward. Then, each of those new three people make favors to three more people. Thus, a universal favor-movement starts. Is it impossible? Trevor McKinney claims the opposite..

Why?: Helping eachother, without expecting any return. It’s the story of a nine year old child that changes the life of many other people.  
 


8) Serendipity

Director: Peter Chelsom
Cast: Kate Beckinsale, John Cusack

Subject: Ten years ago, a snow Christmas night... Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale), who were shopping at a store, suddenly find themselves having dinner together in a restaurant called “Serendipity”. Jonathan has a girlfriend, but he thinks he’s fallen in love with Sara. Believing in mystical powers, Sara accepts the dissappearence of the note card that Jonathan’s phone number is written on as a warning sign. However, consequences continue following them. 

Why?: Destiny, luck, consequences (!) and love. It’s the most spiritual romantc comedy movie that you’ll ever see.
 


9) Life is Beatiful

Director: Roberto Benigni
Cast: Roberto Benigni, Nicoletta Braschi, Giustino Durano, Sergio Bini Bustric

Subject: The movie tells the story of a Jewish waiter Guido who tries to win the heart of a wealthy and powerful woman, in the background of World War II. They marry and have a son. However, at the same time, Germany is about to conquer everywhere. Guido is thrown to a concentration camp. He rejects the violence all around him and tries to act as if everything is a game, as he tries to save his family.

Why?:  It’s a beautiful and warm story of a man who smiles to the world.
 


10) Butterfly Effect

Director: Eric Bress, Mackye Gruber
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart
Subject: Evan Treborn is a 20 year old University student who has lost the memory of his very important times from the age of seven. One day, he finds the journals that his psychiatrist advised to write on When he reads them, he literally turns back to those times and realises that he can make changes. However, the also realises that every little changes effects the present time and causes unexpected results.  

Why?: Have you ever had regrets in your past? And if you had the chance to fix your mistakes, would a better life be waiting for you now? It’s a great film that gives us the message that everything in life is in the way “it should be”.

 

11) Bruce Almighty

Director: Tom Shadyac
Cast: Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman

Subject: Bruce Nolan, a TV reporter who has a lot of caring people and a beautiful girlfriend, thinks that he has a unfair life. After the worst day of his life, Bruce blaims God with ruling the universe unfairly. Then, God answers and gives all his powers to Bruce to see if he can do better.
Why?: God has a lot of work to do. The movie tells about that idea, with the harmony of Carrey’s great performance.
 


12) Powder

Director: Viktor Savla
Cast: Mary Steenburgen, Jeff Goldblum, Sean Patrick Flanery
Subject: The story of a young albino, “Powder” who has mystical powers. Gizemli güçleri olan
Why?: It should be watched at least for the scene where the deer is shot. “Powder” walks towards the poor deer and touches with love; then... Especially, give attention to the end!
 



13) What Dreams May Come

Director: Vincent Ward
Cast: Robin Williams, Cuba Godding Jr, Jessica Brooks Grant

Subject: Children doctor Chris Nielsen (Robin Williams), dies in a car accident. When he opens his eyes, he finds himself in the heaven he creates in his dreams. Angel Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) helps Chris to get used to that world. Howeveri he cannot forget his wife Annie (Annabella Sciorra). Annie thinks that his husband waits for him in the heaven and commits suicide, but finds herself in hell. So, Chris goes to hell to rescue his beloved wife.

Why?:That beautiful love story deserves to be watched even just for its wonderful visiual effects.
 


14) The Princess and The Warrior

Director: Tom Tykwer
Cast: Franka Potente, Benno Fürmann, Melchior Beslon

Subject: A man called Bodo saves the life of a woman, Sissi. She is a nurse working in a mental hospital, and she has the skill of turning the time back.
Why?: A soulmate story from Germans. Finding soulmate stories are usually romantic. However, in this story, the princess is a nurse, the warrior is an old soldier. A truck hits to the princess, and this is how they meet... As the princess tells the warrior; “I saw  myself being together with you. Before, we were siblings, then father and son, wife and husband. Now, we’re here.”
 


15) Das Experiment

Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Cast: Moritz Bleibtrue

Subject: An experiment is to made to dicover the changes that people go through in jail conditions. 20 people accept to take part in the experiment for money. Everything is normal at first. However, eventually things start to be out of control.  

Why?: People who watch this film might wonder why there’s such a tought movie in that list, but it’s a movie that that faces us with the fact that how easily we can forget what we actually are.
 


16) Frequency

Director: Gregory Hoblit
Cast: Dennis Quaid, Jim Caviezel

Subject: John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel), who is a succesful police realises that the can get some frequancies from 30 years ago’s time. Then, he discovers that they belong to his father who had lost his life in a fire. He can turn back time and prevent his father’s death, but this will also lead to the escape of a serial murderer.

Why?: This is not a movie with positive messages, however it wonderfully shows the “destiny” and how “free” choices can change it.
 


17) Discovery of Heaven

Director: Jaroen Krabbe
Cast: Stephen Fry, Greg Wise, Flora Monthgomery

Subject: The movie is about the struggle between the free choices of human and celestial powers. Two good friends, Max and Omo, fall in love with the same woman, Ada. At the same time, the angel’s world tries to control earth in order to follow God’s orders.

Why?: It’s Dutch movie which is absurd at some points, but perfectly showing the spiritual missions. At the end of the movie, there’s a scene that reminds the audience of the Prophet Mohammed's ascension.
 


18) Little Buddha

Director: Bernardo Bertulucci
Cast: Keanu Reeves

Subject: Lama Norbu (Ruocheng Ying), thinks that Buddha’s soul will encarnate in a small children. They take a girl from India, Jesse (Alex Wiesendanger) from America, a boy from Katmandu; and go to holy Butan city to find out who is the real Buddha. At the same time, Siddharta’s (Keanu Reeves) past life story is told parallel to the first story.
Why?: Buddha’s life story is told in the movie, and it’s the most beautiful movie of Bertulucci.
 


19) Groundhog Day

Director: Harold Ramis

Subject:
The preperations are made for the traditional Fabruary of second, Grounhog Day in America. Phil Connors, a reporter is told to report the celebrations. One morning, when he wakes up, he realises that he’s living the previous day again.

Why?: If we do not realise our mistakes, we continiously repeat them. That’s the theme of the movie.
 


20) Sliding Doors

Director: Peter Howitt
Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, John Hannah
Subject: The movie tells the concept of love which changes according to time and place, from the point of view of Helen. First, Helen is fired. Then, she misses the subway; and that little detail changes everything.

Why?: Is the direction of our life depends on the sliding doors of a subway, or not? The answer is in the movie.
