I grew up in Istanbul and then in my high school years moved to Yalova. I went on to attend Uludag university in Bursa, where I read Business Studies. This led to a busy two and a half year stint in Istanbul's financial world. During this period I met and subsequently married my husband, an Englishman called Peter. Around this time I began to feel somewhat dissatisfied with my high-pressure work life and therefore decided to take a teacher training course at Marmara university. I then worked as an English teacher in a private school for a couple of years. After the 1999 Izmit earthquake we decided to move away from Istanbul and we relocated to Antalya. Within a year of moving our daughter, Lara, was born. I had a difficult pregnancy and even more problems ensued when I gave birth very prematurely. These experiences became the subject of a book I have written (as yet unpublished). Now as a family we have moved back to Istanbul. I am currently teaching English to young children and when I'm not doing that I like to write . . . |
